Playoffs Today

The Mets send Jose Quintana against Tobias Myers in the first winner take all game of the 2024 post-season. The two went head to head last Saturday, on what was supposed to be the penultimate day of the season. The Brewers won that game 6-0, Myers throwing four shutout innings after Jared Koenig opened the game for an inning. Note that Myers got the win, despite pitching just four innings. If he had done that as a starter, his game would be in the no-decision column.

Quintana held his own, allowing two runs in 4 1/3 innings, striking out nine batters. He did allow five hits and two walks, the Brewers doing a good job when they put the ball in play.

Overall Myers posted a fine rookie season, throwing 138 innings with a 3.00 ERA. His strength came from limiting walks, allowing just 36 on the season. His weakness was the home run ball with 18 hits against him leaving the park.

Quintana served as an innings eater for the Mets, owning a 3.75 ERA in 170 1/3 innings. He struck out just 135 batters, but still managed to limit hits, allowing a .237 opposition batting average.

Of course, in a game like this, the clubs will go to their bullpens early, as neither can allow things to get out of hand. The game is scheduled for 7 PM EDT.

Enjoy!
