Alonso Answers

Devin Williams of the Brewers puts two men on in the top of the ninth, trying to protect a 2-0 lead over the Mets. Pete Alonso comes to the plate with one out and hits a high line drive just over the fence in rightfield to put the Mets on top 3-2. The Mets offense looked a bit tired tonight, as I thought the last week finally caught up with them. Alonso had one big hit left, and he may have saved the Mets season.

Update: Jesse Winker gets hit by a pitch, steals second, and Starling Marte drives him in for the insurance run. The Mets lead 4-2. Williams saved fourteen games in fifteen attempts during the regular season.

Update: David Peterson comes on to pitch for New York. He gives up a single, then records a K and induces a double play, and the Mets win the Wild Card series! The will take on the Phillies next.

The Brewers ballpark is silent. Last time I remember something like this was when the Yankees beat the Royals in five games in the 1977 ALCS.
