Top of the World

Kerry Carpenter of the Tigers, who entered the game earlier as a pinch hitter, smacks a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning off super closer Emmanuel Clase of the Guardians to end eight scoreless innings by both teams. Clase, in his MLB career, allowed just 13 home runs in 312 2/3 regular season innings, so the Carpenter hammer shocked the Cleveland crowd. The Tigers retire the Guardians in the bottom of the ninth, and Detroit evens the series at one game apiece.

Tarik Skubal, the Tigers starter, now owns 13 shutout innings in the 2024 post-season, allowing seven hits and one walk, striking out 14.
