Dodgers Miscues

The Padres score six runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks in part to two poor fielding plays by the Dodgers. With Manny Machado on first and none out, Freddy Freeman makes a nice play to his right to stop the ball, but he tries throwing from his knees to second, and his throw goes off Machado’s helmet, putting the Padres third baseman on third. Then on a roller to Miguel Rojas at short, Rojas tries to step on second and throw to first for a double play. He is late reaching second, then his throw to first is late. That tied the game at one with two men on. Then the flood gates open, with the Padres scoring topped off by another Fernando Tatis Jr. home run. The Padres take control of the game early.

Update: Teoscar Hernandez answers with a grand slam in the top of the third inning to cut the Padres lead to 6-5.
