I just heard on the White Sox broadcast that Harry Kalas passed away. According to Ken Harrelson, he was found passed out in the radio booth in Washington. He went out getting ready to do the job he loved:
Kalas had been with the Phillies since 1971 and was known for his distinctive “Outta here!” home run call.
Bill Campbell told KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia that Kalas had leg circulation problems and had a heart procedure to address those problems.
Even if you never heard a Phillies game on the radio, you heard his voice in NFL films and Campbell Soup commercials. We lost a baseball icon today. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
God Speed Harry…theres a long drive to deep left field…that ball’s in heaven..thanks for the memories!
I didn’t think it would hurt, and it seems silly since I didn’t know him personally, he’s just been calling my favorite team my entire life…
But it does. RIP Harry.
I loved him in the Puppy Bowl.
It’s just so sad to loss someone that you spend so much time with.
Harry Kalas was a great man and the greatest broadcaster I will ever know in my lifetime.
Harry still did a couple innings of radio every game so people without cable could still hear his voice – I really appreciate him for that.
I’ll miss you Harry the K.
