The Nationals lost Wednesday’s game against the Braves to a bases loaded walk. That pretty much sums up the Nationals season. It was the third consecutive walk over two pitchers.

It’s a good thing Brandon Phillips doesn’t play for Atlanta, they might not have won this one.
It’s hard to feel sorry for baseball players, but you gotta have a heart for the Nationals. If anything can go wrong…
Anyway, this game was the absolute pit of the shutouts all over baseball yesterday. One run all night crawled home on a bases-loaded walk. That kind of rip-roaring action will pack ’em in.
Funny thing, though. Even with all the shutouts baseball managed to average 8.6 runs per game yesterday. That’s not super-robust offense but it’s a long way from 1908 or 1968.
With the unemployment rate headed for double digits, baseball will make sure there’s plenty of offense this year. The old saw is true: pitching may be 75% of the game but hitting is 75% of the gate.
