Big Game Hunter

With the Angels winning this afternoon and the Red Sox losing winning two, the Rangers could not afford to lose in their double header. Tommy Hunter stepped it up in game one and pitched efficiently and well, helping Texas defeat Seattle 7-2 in a complete game victory. Hunter used his defense, walking just one and striking out three. Only six of the 30 Mariners batters who put the ball in play collected hits. Hunter threw 68 of his 102 pitches for strikes.

Just for comparison, Doug Fister threw 101 pitches, but only lasted 4 2/3 innings as 10 of the 23 balls in play against him fell for hits, including two that landed in the stands for homers. For the game, seven of the Rangers twelve hits went for extra bases, including three homers. It was a big win in a big game, and now Derek Holland gets to try to do the same.
