The umpire, Marty Foster, who ejected Alex Rodriguez and Joe Girardi Sunday is the same one who called Derek Jeter out earlier in the season because a throw beat him to the bag:
This is the second time in the last two months the Yankees have been involved in controversy with Foster. On July 6, Derek Jeter was called out trying to steal third, and Jeter alleged that Foster said a tag was unnecessary. Foster threw Girardi out that day, too.
“I think last time he told Jeter to get off the field,” A-Rod said. “I don’t know what his deal is with the Yankees.”
Said Foster, “I don’t carry anything over.”
Interestingly, Foster said Girardi “did kind of bring up the stuff from last time, which kind of surprised me.”
I wonder if Foster will be assigned to any post-season series, and if so, will it be one in which the Yankees are playing?
