Jaramillo to the Cubs

Bleed Cubbie Blue takes this very positive vibe from the Cubs expected announcement of the Rudy Jaramillio signing:

There is one more thing that’s an encouraging sign about this signing. Spending nearly $2.5 million (over three years) on a coach indicates — to me, at least — that new ownership, which will likely be made official in the next couple of weeks, is not going to hold back the purse strings when it comes to improving the team. And that has to be good news. I’ll update this post with the official press release when it comes out.

One caveat about Jaramillo that should be considered has to do with hitters in Texas. Since 1995, the Rangers scored 5.70 runs per game at home, the best home mark in the American League and second only to the Colorado Rockies. On the road, that drops to 4.90 runs per game, 10th in the majors and ninth in the American League. In other words, there’s a big ballpark component to his success as measured by the success of the Rangers offense.
