Pablo Sandoval didn’t lose as much weight as the Giants hoped:
“He’s still a work in progress,” Groeschner said Sunday. “He’s working hard, and he’s still working to slim down. We’re trying to stay on top of this because he’s not where we wanted him yet.”
Sandoval reportedly dropped 12 pounds during an intensive training session here in November. He then went to Venezuela to play winter ball. Upon his return, he said he regained only one pound during the trip and ate healthier – but his progress stalled.
“He didn’t have a huge setback,” Groeschner said, “but he didn’t have an advancement.”
Weight didn’t seem to hurt Tony Gwynn’s ability to hit, and Kirby Puckett appeared round. His weight is probably just a reflection of his body type. I suspect that keeping him from getting too big is more important than getting him thin.
