Jerry Crasnick pens an article on how the Colorado Rockies built for long term success. He seems to focus on the athleticism of the team.
A couple of years ago, I thought this team was built for short term success. They brought up a number of players just as they were reaching their prime, and let them grow together in the majors. Since then, however, they keep adding younger players and prune out some of the dead wood (or, in the case of Matt Holliday, to contain costs). I thought they might let the original group peak and fade, then start over. Instead, they’ve done a good job of executing the strategy of the 1990s Braves, making small moves every year to improve the team. I suspect they’ll be in contention most years over the next five to ten.
