Can’t Blame the Bullpen (Much)

Zack Greinke comes out of the game against the Blue Jays after seven innings. He struck out eight, walked one, and gave up a homer to leave with a 3-2 lead. The game is now tied after the Jays get a single, sacrifice and single against the Royals bullpen. Fred Lewis’s single, however, was a bad play by the Royals defense. Alberto Callaspo could not decide if he should spear or get in front of the hard hit ball, and ended up doing neither. It was a good example of how the Royals poor defense hurts the team. The game is tied at three in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Update: Callaspo gets picked off at first in the top of the ninth to end the inning.

Update: Regulation ends with the game tied at 3. Blue Jays fans get free innings this afternoon!

Update: Alex Gordon hits his first home run of the year in the top of the tenth to give the Royals a 4-3 lead. Six of the seven runs today came on homers.

Update: Soria comes on and retires the Jays in order, earning his fourth save. Batters are only 3 for 20 against Joakim this season.
