Todd Wellemeyer just put a 3-1 pitch in Adrian Gonzalez’s wheelhouse. Adrian was ready for it and promptly deposited the pitch in the seats. In was a great example of how not to pitch to a power hitter. The Padres lead 1-0 as they bat in the first inning, a win putting them alone in first place in the NL West. That’s the fifth home run Wellemeyer allowed in just 11 innings of work.
