Hinch and Haren

A.J. Hinch explains his decision to remove Dan Haren after seven innings against the Yankees Tuesday night:

“We can’t continue to ride him too heavy,” Hinch said of Haren. “It’s easy to want to do that. It’s easy to want to leave him in. We’ve taxed him pretty much every start. He hasn’t really had a breather and I didn’t really feel good about it.”

Relievers Esmerling Vasquez and Chad Qualls gave up six runs as the New York Yankees blew open the game for a 9-3 win.

Hinch, though, wasn’t second-guessing his decision, saying he made it for the right reason: He wanted to ease what has been a heavy workload for Haren this season.

Given the Yankees were leading 3-2 when Haren was removed, the bullpen didn’t really blow the game. The did change the chances of the DBacks coming back however, and how the offense might have approached the eighth and ninth inning.
