Kelly Shoppach misses the cycle by a triple as the collects three hits, including a solo home run in the sixth that proved to be the winning run as the Rays beat the Padres 5-3. Since Shoppach never tripled before in the majors, the cycle was a real long shot.

The pitchers showed great control in the game as only one walk was issued Thursday afternoon.
