Konerko Clout

Paul Konerko ends a scoreless tie between the White Sox and Braves in the bottom of the eighth inning with his 18th home run of the season, a two-run shot. Derek Lowe and Gavin Floyd each pitched seven shutout innings, but J.J. Putz is now in line for the win and Takashi Saito is looking at the loss.

Update: Bobby Jenks retires the braves in order in the ninth, and the White Sox stay red hot with a 2-0 victory over the Braves. This gives the Mets a chance to move into first place tonight with a win over the Tigers. That would help the White Sox gain in the AL Central as well, and with the Twins losing 5-0 in the top of the ninth, the White Sox should be closer to first place in a few minutes.

Update: The Twins lose, and Chicago now trails in the AL Central by 2 1/2 games.
