Garland Out-hits Johnson

Jon Garland defeated Josh Johnson this evening, thanks to a sacrifice fly. With the score tied at one in the top of the fifth, Jerry Hairston, Jr. tripled, and Jon Garland hit a fly ball to drive him in. That would be the last run either team would score. The Marlins collected four hits over the last 2 1/3 innings off the Padres bullpen, but they also struck out five times in that span, stranding every one of them.

Johnson walked one and struck out nine in his eight innings of work, but takes the tough loss. His ERA stands at 1.83, and after allowing five hits on the evening, he finishes with a .199 opposition batting average.
