The Orioles designated Garrett Atkins for assignment. They took a chance that his 2009 season was a fluke, but it turns out Atkins’ fall was for real. Instead of regressing toward his career averages, Atkins fell further away from them. Then again, that seems to be the norm with Orioles players this season.
