How is this a First Place Team?

I’m looking at today’s in-progress box score for the Padres/Marlins game, and my thought was, how can a team with an offense this poor be in first place. Today, Adrian Gonzalez is the only good hitter in the lineup. When Nick Hundley, they have two. The really scary thing is that they’re not last in the majors in runs scored per game. If they should make the playoff, we should transfer the moniker of hit-less wonders them. At least the 1914 Braves finished 2nd in the NL in runs.

The Padres are hitting very well with runners in scoring position, but it’s not making that much of a difference. They are scoring .05 runs per game more than their runs created estimate, or an extra run every 20 games.

After watching the Giants this weekend, I doubt their offense is much better. Hard to understand how they scored as many runs as they have.
