Les is More

John Lester pitched a complete game for the Red Sox a day after they used their entire bullpen. He used just 103 pitches to hold the Giants to one run. Even his strikeouts must have been efficient as he recorded nine Ks and just one walk in the 5-1 Boston win.

The Red Sox lost Victor Martinez to an injury, however, as they are leaving Pedroia’s foot, Buchholz’s knee and Martinez’s thumb in San Francisco. I assume Varitek will take over full time behind the plate. They’ll probably gain a little defensively, but I wonder if everyday will work will take a toll on Jason’s power, which is pretty good this season.

I’ll also note that the two big NL aces going Sunday evening, Tim Lincecum and Roy Oswalt, were both roughed up by their AL competition.
