Heyward Hurt

Via Hardball Talk, Jason Heyward’s injured thumb won’t heal until he can rest it:

The MRI exam revealed a strained ligament where it attaches to the bone, and possibly a bruise. While it’s not an injury that requires surgery, it’s possible the soreness could linger until Heyward gets extended rest in the offseason.

In the meantime, it will likely be up to the 20-year-old right fielder to play when he feels comfortable enough to do so. He’s out of the lineup for Monday night’s game, the third consecutive start he’s missed since the soreness.

Heyward initially injured the thumb when he jammed it into third base sliding head-first on May 14.

His numbers have been less than rookie of the year like since the injury.

I live in the middle of Braves country where it seems like a given that JHey will win ROY.

Is it? If he continues at this pace will the hype continue to allow for that thought process?

Could Strasburg, Ike Davis, or someone else possibly win this year?

@Charles fom Macon: No, if he continues at this pace he will not win the ROY. If Strasburg doesn’t get any runs when he pitches, it might very well go to Mike Leake.
