Gritty Player Breaks Up No-Hitter

David Eckstein singles in the sixth, with none out and a man of first, the first Padres’ hit of the evening against Ubaldo Jimenez. After a poor start against Boston, Ubaldo returned to his unhittable self. He’s walked four in the game but struck out six so far, and with no runs allowed through 5 1/3 innings his ERA is down to 1.52. With an 8-0 Rockies lead, it will take a huge meltdown for Jimenez not to earn his 14th victory.

Update: Maybe the meltdown in happening as a single and a Scott Hairston home run make the score Colorado 8, San Diego 4.

Update: That’s all the Padres get in the inning. PETCO is playing more like Coors tonight as the Rockies hit three home runs and the Padres one.
