Complete Wins

MetsBlog.com points to this note on Cliff Lee’s four complete game wins in June. The last pitcher to have that many complete game wins in a month was Roy Halladay. In the history of the Day by Day database, which goes back to 1957, Pat Dobson blows everyone away with eight complete game victories in July of 1971. For some reason, four complete game wins in a month were very fashionable late in the 1990s, as it happened at least once every year from 1992 though 1999, with Greg Maddux, David Wells and Carols Perez all accomplishing the feat in 1998. It was extremely common in the 1980s, with multiple pitchers picking up at least four complete game wins in a month in every year of the decade.
