An Inning too Far

Roy Halladay pitched five shutout innings before Joey Votto tied the NL leader with his 18th home run of the year, leaving the Phillies with a 3-1 lead in the sixth. Halladay gave up three hits in the seventh to make it 3-2, then came out for the eighth. Jonny Gomes singled leading off, and Jay Bruce followed with a home run to put the Reds up 4-3. Halladay has allowed 13 hits in the game, but he’s still in there pitching. Roy has now allowed 10 home runs on the season. I guess Charlie Manuel really doesn’t trust his bullpen at this point.

The Reds bullpen allowed one hit over 2 2/3 innngs while striking out three as they hold on for a 4-3 win. That moves them into a temporary tie with the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.
