Winning Big

Zack Greinke won a game despite allowing six runs to the Chicago White Sox. He allowed one run through the first seven innings, but when the first five batters reached in the eighth inning, I don’t know why Zack was allowed to finish the inning. All five scored.

This was a huge first for Zack, as it was the first time he won a game in which he allowed more than three runs. Of his first 53 wins, ten came when he allowed three runs, nine came when he allowed two runs, 14 came when he allowed one run, and twenty came when he allowed zero runs. (Those include five wins in relief.) For all the game he lost while pitching great, it’s nice to see him get a win when his manager leaves him in too long.

I remember reading something about Yost wanting to leave Hochevar in a game to see if he could work himself out of a jam or get him to learn to do so. I’m thinkin’ Yost wanted to see how Greinke works out of a jam… he’s probably not seen him REALLY in a jam yet, late in a game.
