Getting the Lead Back

The Mariners get to CC Sabathia in the top of the eighth with Russell Branyan singling with two out to drive in Seattle’s first two runs of the game, tying the score. The Mariners go to their closer, David Aardsma in the bottom of the inning, as he hasn’t worked much with all the complete games. The heart of the order gets him, however, as Mark Teixeira singles and Alex Rodriguez hits an opposite field home run to put the Yankees and Sabathia back on top 4-2. Two hits give Teixeira a 12 game hit streak, while Rodriguez takes his career home run total up to 595. Mariano Rivera comes in for the save.

Update: Rivera retires the side in order, getting one from each out group, a fly, grounder and K. Rivera lowers his ERA to 0.89. In 16 years of playing in the majors, Mariano has posted ERAs under 2.00 in ten of those. This would be his first year under 1.00 if this holds up.
