The Pen is Mightier

Kyle Davies and Sergio Mitre both got knocked around a bit in the Royals/Yankees game Saturday afternoon. Mitre got the worst of it, giving up seven runs in 4 1/3 innings, which Davies lasted 5 1/3 with four runs allowed. The bullpens shutdown the game, however. The Royals struck out five in 3 2/3 innings, preventing a Yankees comeback, while Dustin Mosely finished the game for New York, giving up just one hit over 4 2/3 innings. The Royals won 7-4.

The Yankees were victimized on the last play of the game. With men on first and second and two out, Mark Teixeira hit a slow roller up the middle. The first base ump called Teixeira out, but the slow motion replay clearly showed Mark’s foot on the bag and the ball in the air. That would have give Mark three hits on the day, as he twice homered earlier. It also would have brought Alex Rodriguez to the plate as the winning run, and could have made for a dramatic 600th home run. Instead, we’ll wait another day.
