Odonez Goes Down

It looks like the Tigers lost Magglio Ordonez for at least six weeks:

Not even a week after losing Brandon Inge to a broken bone in his left hand the Tigers have lost Magglio Ordonez for six to eight weeks with a fractured right ankle. During the third inning of Detroit’s Saturday night game against Toronto, Ordonez tried to score from first base on a double by Miguel Cabrera. Ordonez, who has been limited to designated hitter duty because of a sore ankle all week, was out at the plate and remained on the ground after sliding into home.

He had to be helped off the field, and x-rays taken on the ankle revealed the fracture.

With a .378 OBP and a .474 slugging percentage, he was the second or third best hitter on the team this season. Those numbers will be tough to replace. Of course, this is good for teams with players to trade, as another bidder joins the action.

The Blue Jays lead the Tigers 3-2 as Detroit bats in the bottom of the seventh.
