Comeback Falls Short

The Mets fell behind 6-0 early, Johan Santana allowing the Cardinals the most hits and runs he ever allowed in the first inning. The Mets fought back to tie the game at seven with four runs in the bottom of the eighth, then lost in 13 innings 8-7. Albert Pujols, 3 for 7 on the night, singled in the winning run when the Mets chose to pitch to him instead of Matt Halladay. Given that Albert wasn’t running well, it seemed like the right choice.

The Mets scored 15 runs in their last two games, as many as they scored in their previous seven contests.
