Twenty Four Up, Twenty Four Down

Gio Gonzalez and Gavin Floyd are both perfect through four innings as the Athletics and White Sox battle in Chicago. Both struck out three batters. Gonzalez is the more efficient so far, with 37 pitches thrown to Floyd’s 47. Gio is also throwing a higher percentage of strikes.

Meanwhile, Wesley Wright is perfect through four against the Brewers as they play in Houston. No score in that game, either.

Update: Gavin Floyd gets three more outs in the fifth to stay perfect.

Update: Carlos Quentin gets the first hit of the game, a one-out single in the fifth. One perfecto is gone. Ryan Braun singles off Wesley Wright leading off the fifth to kill that one. We’ll see how far Floyd can go.

Update: The White Sox give Floyd a 4-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gavin walks the leadoff batter, Cliff Pennington, to start the sixth, losing the perfect game.

Update: Matt Carson singles to left with one out, and Floyd will not get a no-hitter today.
