Raising Cain

Matt Cain earns his first win ever against the Dodgers as he lasts 7 2/3 innings in a 2-0 San Francisco victory. Wildness tended to be his problem in those previous 14 starts, but Sunday night he walked just 1 while striking out seven, holding the Dodgers to four hits. He continues to pitch well since the All-Star break, going 3-0 in four starts with a 1.52 ERA.

The Dodgers fall eight games back of the Padres, and really need to take at least three out of four in their upcoming series with San Diego to stay in contention.
