Games of the Day

The Tigers sit seven games back of the White Sox as they play a double header in the motor city. Mark Buehrle and Rick Porcello battle in game one, while Carlos Torres and Jeremy Bonderman face off in game two. Torres came up briefly in 2009 and pitched poorly. He’s a high strikeout, high walk pitcher, which might work well against an inexperienced Tigers lineup.

The Mets try to even their series with the Braves as R.A. Dickey takes on Derek Lowe. Dickey continues to show great control for a knuckleballer, walking just 24 batters in 93 innings. Lowe’s walks are up this year, but with his hits down some his ERA is about a 1/10 of a run better than 2009.

Roy Halladay and the Phillies travel to Florida as the Marlins and Sean West try to gain in the wild card race. Roy dominated the Marlins this season with a 1.08 ERA, walking one and striking out 23 in 25 innings. Despite those great numbers, he managed to lose a game to Florida. West makes his 2010 debut after posting a 3.12 ERA in New Orleans.

Finally, Ted Lilly makes his Dodgers debt as he hosts the Padres and Mat Latos. Mat gives up home runs on the road, allowing eight of his 12 away from PETCO Park. He finished July 3-0 with a 1.04 ERA. Lilly gave up eight home runs in July, helping him to a 5.34 ERA for the month.
