Ryan Meets the Press

Nolan Ryan talked to the press today after his group’s successful bid to buy the Rangers:

Asked whether the auction victory and impending ownership approval by MLB frees the franchise to extend the contracts of Daniels and Washington, team president Ryan noted that his and Daniels’ contracts run concurrent through next season.

“And Wash is up after this year and we’ve told Wash we want him back and we’ve told him we will address it at the appropriate time. And he’s very comfortable with that.

“Obviously, you can anticipate him back next year. It’s just as far as working out the details, that’ll be done at the appropriate time.” Ryan added that the same goes for the coaching staff.

There were thoughts that Washington would be fired if the Rangers failed to perform this season do to his drug use over the winter. Ron not only saved his job with this season, but he’ll get to continue as manager for a while.
