A Week of Buck

Buck Showalter is trying to disprove the idea that a manager doesn’t make a difference. The Orioles won 14-8 Tuesday night to go 7-1 since Showalter took over. The offense is on fire, scoring 45 runs in eight games. The pitching is still a work in progress, as they’ve allowed 32 runs in those eight games.

What has happened, however, is that the offense and pitching picked each other up. The Orioles have won games 2-1, 4-3, and 3-2 as well as 9-7 and 14-8. They are 4-0 in one run games. They’ve even gained ground on the Yankees, and Baltimore is pretty much out of danger of competing with the 1962 Mets.

While Luke Scott continues to hit well, Adam Jones and Felix Pie came to life under Buck. If he can get Wieters hitting better, Showalter will make the trifecta!

The Orioles timed it right for Showalter as Gonzalez (7/21), Pie (7/6), Roberts (7/23), Scott (7/19), Wieters (7/25), Millwood (7/22) all recently off the DL by the time he took over and now smoothing off the DL rust. Playing the Angels and Indians didn’t hurt either.

Folks spend so much time talking about the Red Sox injuries they fail to notice other teams have injuries, teams that have little depth.
