The Braves announced Kris Medlen needs Tommy John surgery. Medlen was having a good sophomore year, walking just 21 batters in 107 2/3 innings. The Braves did not appear to be abusing the 24 year old, as he averaged six innings per start. Sometimes, no matter what precautions teams take, these injuries happen. That’s two important players the Braves lost to season ending injuries this week, while the Phillies are expecting to get their big hitters back soon. It’s going to be an interesting race in the NL East.
