Dis-Rod

The Mets put Francisco Rodriguez on the disqualified list and may his contract may no longer be guaranteed.

The 28-year-old reliever was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court Sept. 14.

He will not be paid until he is deemed able to perform his job again.

He is owed $11.5 million next year as part of a deal that includes a $17.5 million team option for 2012 with a $3.5 million buyout. The option would become guaranteed if he remains healthy and has 100 games finished this year and next, including 55 in 2011.

I believe K-Rod replaced A-Rod as the most disliked Rod in baseball. I’ll be interested to see how the union reacts to this.

Update: It didn’t take long for the union to react to this.
