Monday night, the Padres beat the Cubs with their hitting. Tuesday night, the pitching and defense took over as the Padres come away with a 1-0 victory over Chicago. The Cubs out-hit the Padres six to three, but three double plays turned by San Diego helped even out that difference. Chase Headley drove in the only run of the game in the first inning with a bases loaded ground out.

The Padres lead goes to a comfortable five games with the Giants loss to the Phillies.
