Closing in on 600

When John Axford could not bail out Randy Wolf in the bottom of the ninth, the Brewers called on Trevor Hoffman to save the game with two out and the tying run on third. Hoffman struck out Brendan Ryan to end the game and record his 598th save. After not getting a save since May, Trevor picked up two in nine days. He may get to 600 yet.

The Brewers defeat the Cardinals 3-2. Adam Wainwright fails to break the tie with Ubaldo Jimenez in wins as Randy Wolf allows three hits and one run over 8 1/3 innings. The Cardinals fall 2 1/2 games back of the Reds as they lose their fourth straight and are 1-4 since sweeping the Reds in Cincinnati.
