The Evil Player program selected Eliezer Alfonzo as Monday’s evil player. Alfonzo is a charter member of the band of evil hitting catchers who stick around in the majors because they can handle pitchers, or throw well, or don’t mind getting fingers broken with foul tips. Since his first season in 2006, he has the third lowest OBP in the majors among players with 500 plate appearances. The Mariners finally recognized the evil this season, and designated him for assignment. No other team wanted him, so he’s been exiled to AAA.
