All You Need is Glove

Two ball go in and out of the glove of Adrian Gonzalez in the bottom of the eighth, and the Giants have men on first and second with two out instead of being out of the inning. Neither was an easy play. The first was a line shot that nearly tore Adrian’s glove off, the second a low throw by David Eckstein after ranging up the middle to keep the ball from going into center for a hit.

Heath Bell comes on for a four-out save. He’ll face Andres Torres, 1 for 3 in the game.

Update: Torres grounds to Adrian, who makes the play himself to end the inning. The Padres life continues. Three more outs to stay in the NL West race for another day and preserve the chance for a three-way tie.
