The Padres put three men on base in the ninth but none score. Heath Bell will defend a 6-4 lead as the Padres need three outs to keep their hopes for an NL West title alive and move to one game out in the Wild Card race.
Update: Freddy Sanchez walks to start the inning. That brings the tying run to the plate in the person of Aubrey Huff. He’s grounded into 16 double plays this year.
Update: Huff hits the ball hard, and thinks it’s a home run. It was too low, and was caught in the corner, as Will Venable had him played perfectly in right. Freddy Sanchez thought it would be a hit and was running, and he get doubled off! The game is up to Buster Posey now.
Update: Posey grounds out to shortstop, and the Padres win 6-4. The Giants have two more chances to win the game that will send them to the post season. The Padres are looking at this as win one at a time. San Diego is now two games out of the NL West lead and one game out of the wild card lead with two games to play. Stay tuned. The massive tie lives!
