The Washington Nationals signed Rick Ankiel to a one-year, $1.25 million contract, with incentives for plate appearances. Washington is paying him like a bench player, and I suspect that will be his job. All his home runs in 2010 came against right-handed pitching, so he’ll either platoon a bit or be the main pinch hitter against righty relievers.
