Playing with the Rain

The Red Sox are up 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning in Detroit, but rain is on the way. The Tigers grounds crew removed the cover from the tarp between innings. Detroit may try to stall here a bit, with the hope that the game will be called and the 7-0 lead wiped out. In that case, Jacoby Ellsbury would lose a three-run homer.

Didn’t that rule change, and now it would be suspended and completed at a later date?

Brett Carow » Only if it’s an official game and tied. The score still gets wiped out if there are less than five innings played. It happened Wednesday night in Detroit.
