Games of the Day

Cliff Lee tries to extend his 32 inning scoreless streak as the Phillies face Jo-Jo Reyes and the Blue Jays. In three consecutive shutouts, Lee allowed just 10 hits and five walks, striking out 12. He’s pitching to contact, and the Phillies are turning those batted balls into outs. Reyes owns a very good strikeout to walk ratio, but allowed eleven home runs in 88 2/3 innings.

Kyle Lohse and Jeremy Hellickson square off as the Cardinals continue their series at Tampa Bay. Lohse posts his low ERA based on a great walk rate. He’s done very well on the road this season with a 6-1 record and a 2.47 ERA with fewer home runs and more strikeouts. Hellickson knocked about 1/3 a run off his 2010 cup of coffee ERA by reducing his home run rate.

Finally, Ian Kennedy faces Gio Gonzalez as the Diamondbacks take on the Athletics. Ian is two wins away from doubling his career win total entering the 2011 season. His K/BB is over 3.0 this season for the first time in his career. After a wild game against the White Sox in which Gio issued seven walks in 5 1/3 innings, he’s found his control. In his last three starts, Gio issued six walks in 21 innings, allowing just three runs.

Enjoy!
