Lester’s Life on the D-List

The Red Sox placed Jon Lester on the disabled list. Luckily, the All-Star break comes in the middle of the disablement. The Red Sox are one of the teams that get four days off, so they only play ten games in the next fifteen days, so Jon should only miss two starts. However, Lester was set to go on Sunday, which means he could have gone the following Friday to start the second half, so the Red Sox will lose the advantage of giving him an extra start.

Tito was quoted as saying they planned to give Lester a day off Sunday anyways, so at most he loses 1 start.

His being on the DL was mainly to bring up a RP’er given Lester was not going to pitch until after the ASB anyways. Tito did the same with Daisuke last year. Sometimes the DL is used as a roster management tool. So Lester pitches at the back end of the rotation to start the 2nd half and not the front end. Might not even miss 1 start.
