Strengths and Weaknesses

The Florida Marlins knocked around a weak Phillies bullpen Wednesday night, coming back from a 6-3 deficit to win 7-6 in ten innings. Kyle Kendrick lasted five innings, giving up three runs, but only one earned. His relievers gave up seven hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings, including a game winning home run by Make Stanton.

With three potential closers injured, the Phillies pen is a real weakness on the team. The majority of their starting pitchers, Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, and Cole Hamels, are able to go deep in games. Charlie Manuel is able to hide the weak parts of the pen when they only get used one inning, or not at all. Last night, that didn’t happen, and the depleted staff cost them a game.
