Joe Mauer made his major league debut at first base Thursday night. He went three for five at the plate (all singles), and turned an unassisted double play in the field. All that helped the Twins beat the White Sox 6-2. The Twins are only 2 1/2 games behind Chicago, so it’s possible that the Twins go into the All-Star break having gained third place in the division.
