Angels Sweep

The pitching duel between Felix Hernandez and Dan Haren materialized, as both allowed just two runs. Felix only lasted seven innings, however, and Alberto Callaspo doubled in two runs in the eighth against the Mariners bullpen to give Haren and the Angels a 4-2 win and a four game sweep of the Mariners. Coupled with the Rangers win, Seattle now stands 7 1/2 games back in the AL West. Their run at contention ends with a five-game losing streak. The Angels go into the All-Star break just one game behind Texas.

Update: It appears that Bobby Abreu walked on a three-ball count, and the Mariners didn’t notice:

Angels designated hitter Bobby Abreu was allowed to take first base after a 3-1 count in the third inning of Los Angeles’ game against the Mariners.

Home plate umpire Gerry Davis apparently lost track of the count, and the Seattle dugout didn’t protest.

On July 2, San Diego’s Cameron Maybin took first on a 2-2 pitch and eventually scored the only run in the Mariners’ 1-0 loss.

Mr. Scott:

Should someone on the Mariners be fired over this?

Wow, how many times has this happened now in the past few weeks, 3? That’s incredible.
