Youngster Night

Two young Houston Astros helped beat the Giants 3-1 Thursday night. Jordan Schafer, in just his fourth game since coming over from Atlanta, did what a lead off man should do and reached base three times, scoring all three runs. One of those came on a home run. J.D. Martinez kept up his slugging ways with two doubles, driving in the other two runs. Martinez now has 24 RBI in 24 games, thanks in part to 15 extra-base hits.

The Giants fall three games behind the Diamondbacks in the NL West.

Can’t anybody here hit this ball? If the Giants could get just a teensy-weensy bit of offense, they would run away with the division.

Even Beltran, enjoying a terrific bounceback year, got the wimp-hitter disease as soon as he put on Giants threads: OPS with the Mets .904, OPS with the Giants .680.

Last night was typical. Vogelsong gives the Giants a legit chance to win, and the Giants get one run on six singles.
