Top of the Ninth

The Tigers collect a single, but erase that runner on a double play as they fail to score in the bottom of the eighth. Phil Coke comes out to pitch the top of the ninth, and he’s scheduled to face the top of the Texas batting order, Ian Kinsler, Elvis Andrus and Josh Hamilton. The Tigers lead 7-4, needing the win to stay alive in the series.

Update: Kinsler flies out to center on an 0-1 pitch. One down.

Update: Andrus grounds back to the pitcher. Two down.

Update: Hamilton smashes a ball over Austin Jackson‘s head in centerfield for a double. He’s had a great game at the plate. That brings up Michael Young.

Update: Young hits the first pitch the other way, bouncing past the second baseman for a single. Hamilton scores, and the Rangers trail 7-5. Adrian Beltre represents the tying run at the plate.

Update: Beltre gets ahead of Coke 2-1, then 3-1. He walks on the next pitch. The go-ahead run comes to the plate in the person of Mike Napoli.

Update: Mike grounds a 1-0 pitch to second, and the force play ends the game. The Tigers win 7-5 and send the series back to Texas for game six on Saturday night. This has been a marvelous series so far.
